Shower door replacement in West Palm Beach

Sometimes it is one cracked panel. Sometimes it is a tired framed door you have wanted gone for years. Either way, the old glass comes out and new glass, made to your opening, goes in.

Two kinds of replacement

Replacing a panel. When a single piece of glass is cracked or chipped and the rest of the enclosure is sound, we replace that panel alone. A chip at the edge of tempered glass is a weak point, so a chipped panel should be replaced even if it has not cracked yet. The new glass is made to measurements taken from your opening and drilled for the hardware you already have.

Replacing the enclosure. When the hardware is worn out or obsolete, the frame is corroded, or you simply want a different door, the whole enclosure comes out and a new one goes in. This is also the moment to change type — framed to frameless or semi-frameless, or a swinging door to a slider in a tight bathroom.

Replace the panel, the enclosure, or neither
What you haveUsual answer
One panel cracked or chipped, hardware soundReplace that panel
Door drags, sags or leaks, glass soundRepair, not replacement
Hardware obsolete and parts unavailableReplace the enclosure

Several things failing at once on an old enclosureUsually replace — cheaper than repairing each in turn

If the glass is sound and only a wear part has failed, read shower door repair first. Most enclosures that drag, sag or drip need a part, not a new door.

How a replacement runs

  1. The measure. We look at the existing enclosure, what is behind the tile, and how the walls run. For a change of type, this is where we tell you whether the opening will take it.
  2. Fabrication. The new glass is cut, polished, drilled and tempered to your measurements. Nothing comes out of your bathroom until the new glass is ready.
  3. Removal. The old door, panels and frame come out, the old silicone is cut away, and the opening is cleaned and prepared.
  4. Installation. The new enclosure is set, the hardware fitted and the joints sealed. Allow about 24 hours before using the shower so the silicone can cure.

Taking out a framed enclosure

A framed enclosure is screwed through the tile and sealed along every edge. When it comes out it leaves screw holes, and often a strip of tile and grout that the frame covered for years. We plan the new layout around the old fixing points where we can, and tell you before the job where we cannot, so nothing about the finished wall is a surprise.

What moves the price

Common questions

Can you replace just one glass panel?

Yes, when the rest of the enclosure is sound. Tempered glass cannot be cut after it is made, so the new panel is fabricated to measurements taken from your opening and drilled for your existing hardware. If the hardware is worn or no longer made, it is usually better to replace it at the same time.

Can you replace an enclosure that someone else installed?

Yes. It makes no difference who installed the original. We take out the old glass and frame, prepare the opening, and fit the new enclosure to it.

Can I go from a framed door to frameless?

Often. It depends on what is behind the tile: frameless hinges need solid backing, and the old frame may have left screw holes and a line in the tile that the new layout has to account for. We check both at the measure and tell you what the opening will take.

What happens to the holes the old frame leaves?

Removing a framed enclosure leaves screw holes, and sometimes a band of tile that was never cleaned because the frame covered it. Where we can, we plan the new hardware to cover the old fixing points. Where we cannot, we tell you before the job rather than after, so you can decide how you want them dealt with.
